Before becoming a flower essence practitioner and botanical product developer, I was a world-class athlete for twenty years, and member of the U. S. Biathlon Team (cross-country skiing and rifle marksmanship). I accomplished a great deal in the competitive arena, winning a world championship medal in Biathlon (relay bronze), a first for America. I also excelled in a variety of other sports. The years of athletic training and competition, as well as working as an event coordinator and publisher have contributed to my detail-oriented sensibilities. The combination of these practices has served to prepare me for the complex work that I now engage in through my product development.
I began working with flower essences in 1998 to aid my own personal healing journey. I soon found that I possessed a deep connection and inner knowledge of not just flower essences, but the entire alchemical, medicinal, and energetic qualities of the plant realm. As I devoured books on essences, wild plants, medicinal herbs, flowers, and essential oils, one thing led to another and I began creating these amazing products that are safe and highly effective.
Our first experience with combining essences with essential oils was with Bug Brew natural insect deterrent. We took it with us one June evening on a dinner picnic near a mountain stream. The concoction not only kept the mosquitos at bay, it also gave us a gentle feeling of well-being. My partner Geoff’s skepticism turned to astonished belief. Wow, I was onto something.
Along with my work at creating High Sierra Light Flower Essences, I began wild-crafting mountain herbs like Arnica, Selfheal, St. John’s Wort, Horsetail, Elder Flowers, Wild Rosehips and more. Something compelled me to start blending combinations of the different forms of botanical derivatives together to create a manner of product that I hadn’t seen done by anyone else.
I continually strive to create the most innovative, highest quality botanical formulations, using organic or wild-harvested ingredients whenever possible. I often grow or wild-craft my own herbs, or buy them from local organic farmers as I believe these connections add to the alchemy of my creations.
